Advocacy. Support. Resources. Activism.

Advocacy

The slogan of the Working Class Student Union is, “Advocacy. Support. Resources. Activism.” As demonstrated by this slogan, the key to WCSU’s mission is providing services to UW-Madison’s working-class students and their allies. Our offered services are spread among the four committees of WCSU: advocacy, support, resources, and activism.

The Advocacy Committee recruits and trains individuals to serve as advocates for working-class students. If a working-class student needs to meet with a financial aid officer, a professor, a teaching assistant, or any other individual in power about issues concerning his/her working-class identity, he/she can request that a WCSU advocate attends the meeting with him/her. The advocate can then utilize his/her WCSU training to ensure that the student is being treated fairly and respectfully, as well as having his/her concern(s) addressed in an appropriate manner. This groundbreaking advocacy service is the first known program of its kind in the nation.
